Oregon Trip Provides More Growth

Oregon Trip Provides More Growth

Eugene, OR - The road warrior mentality continued for the Trojan's as they traveled south to Oregon for their 11th and 12th road/neutral site match of the 2021 season.  Fresh off a 3 set win over Green River, EvCC first stopped in Salem for a match up with Chemeketa (3-3).

In the first set, the Trojans and Storm played even with the score tied at 10.  But Chemeketa went on an 8-1 run that put Everett on its heels for the rest of the set.  The storm got to set point with the Trojans at 18, before EvCC went on a 4 point run to make things a bit more interesting.  The late set surge, while valiant, was a bit too late and Chemeketa closed out the set 25-22.

The Trojans came back with confidence in the 2nd set and jumped out to a 10-7 lead.  The Storm responded with two straight points to come within one, but from there EvCC went on a 7-2 run and drew the match even with a 25-18 second set win.

The third set turned out to be one of the most competitive sets of the match between the two teams.  Neither squad had more than a two point lead and there were 10 ties and 7 lead changes.  Chemeketa prevailed in the end by a final score of 25-23.

Everett held strong in the 4th set, taking the lead at 16-15, but the home team went on a five point run and ended the set (and the match) on an 11-4 run.  Jayda Grosboll posted a collegiate career high 6 service aces in the match and led the team with 10 assists.  Lauren Riske and Devon McHenry led the Trojans defensively with 13 and 12 digs respectively, and once again Erin Ingram led the team in kills with 15.

The Trojans left Salem and drove further south to Eugene to face Lane who finished 3rd in the NWAC tournament in 2019.  The Titans outmatched the Trojans in three sets with final scores of  25-15, 25-16, and 25-20.  Devon McHenry continued her solid weekend, and led the team in both kills and digs.

Despite the two losses, it was a productive trip, playing two high quality opponents and continuing to gel as a team.  The Trojans will finally get a chance to play at home this Thursday, September 16th against two west region opponents in Green River (who the Trojans defeated last week in three sets) and South Puget Sound CC.  The two matches will be the final preparations before north region competition begins on September 22nd.  The Trojans will open up region play at home against Whatcom who is currently 11-3 on the season and won the North Region Championship back in 2019.
