Tritons Get the Edge

Tritons Get the Edge

Lynnwood, WA - Riding the confidence of a win last week over Shoreline, the Trojans continued their road campaign Wednesday night, this time in a re-match against rival Edmonds College.  The last meeting back on October 1st was close throughout.  The Tritons ultimately prevailed with set wins of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-23.  Erin Ingram and Sarah Campfield combined for 19 kills in the match, and the Everett duo looked for a repeat performance on the road in Lynnwood.

Everett started out strong in the first set, holding on to a 9-8 lead until 6 straight points by Edmonds stole momentum away.  Everett was able to make one last push reclaiming the lead at 21-20 off of a Stasia Ka'ahanui service ace, but another run of 5 straight points ended the Trojan's plan to steal the first set and could not overcome 11 attack errors.

Set two saw the host Tritons take the lead at 6-7 and build out to as many as 8 at 16-8.  Everett strung together a 9-6 run coming back to as close as three but it was a little two late as the match ended 25-19 on another Everett attacking error to total 12 for the set.

Trailing by two sets, the Trojans showed no quit and minimized mistakes in the third set.  They trailed by as few as two at 17-19, but Edmonds sealed the match on a 6-2 run highlighted by Edmonds' Keelan Memory's 2 kills to give her 10 on the night.  The Trojans were led offensively by Sarah Campfield who recorded 8 kills, 1 solo block, and a block assist in her best performance since the last meeting with Edmonds where she recorded 9 kills and 3 assisted blocks.    As a team the 28 attack errors were the most by the team since their match against CBC back on September 4th (a game that they won) but simply too much to overcome against a strong team like Edmonds.  In the annual quest for the "T" Trophy, Edmonds now holds a one point advantage.

Everett will need to regroup for their last home game of the season, this Friday against Skagit Valley College who is coming off of a big win over previously #1 in the North, Bellevue.  The Cardinals are currently in a four team race for the top spot in the North, with Edmonds now holding a one game lead over Bellevue, Skagit, and Whatcom.
