Sophomore Night and Home Finale

Sophomore Night and Home Finale

Everett, WA – On sophomore night the Trojans took on 18-3 Skagit Valley who is currently ranked inside the top 10 in the NWAC.  One true sophomore (Stasia Ka'ahanui) was recognized along with four redshirt freshman (Rachael Hendrickson, Claire Lyshol, Kelsey Kolling, and Lauren Riske) that will be moving on after this season to continue their education.

Everett hung tough through the first 17 points of the first set at 9-8, but an 8-0 run propelled Skagit Valley out to a nine point lead in which the Trojans would never recover.  The Cardinals closed out the first set 25-16, taking advantage of 15 errors and playing great defense with 16 digs.  Erin Ingram and Rachael Hendrickson led the attack for Everett with 3 kills apiece.

Skagit began set two where they left off, scoring four straight after giving up the first point.  Everett fought with several strong swings but the Skagit defense remained solid, dig after dig and big blocks at the net.  The Cardinals built a 13-5 lead before Everett took a timeout.  The run for SVC continued, building the lead out to ten before Kelsey Kolling and Kiersten Griffin made a block at the net to stop the bleeding.  The home Trojans went on to score six of the next eight points bringing it back to 11-17, but an out of rotation call stopped the mojo and that seemed to be enough for SVC to finish out the set by a final score of 25-16.

Set three began after the long break, and again the home Trojans started out behind the 8-ball opening with a 6-1 deficit, before coach Williams called an early timeout.  The Trojans showed moments of brightness with kills from Erin Ingram and Rachael Hendrickson, but more unforced errors continued to plague the home team, and Everett called their final timeout at 15-5.  The ten point deficit proved too much to overcome and Skagit stamped their visit on a 10-6 run to finalize the match with a 25-11 set win.

Erin Ingram led EvCC in the match with 10 kills and sophomore Stasia Ka'ahanui led defensively with 7 digs.  Everett will close out the regular season with two road games, visiting Olympic next Wednesday and the season finale Friday, November 5th at Bellevue.  Both match times are set for 7pm.
