3-0 Sweep over Green River

3-0 Sweep over Green River

Everett, WA – The Trojans returned home to the Walt Price Center for the first time since August 31st when EvCC defeated Tacoma in three sets.  Since that time, Everett has played 8 matches over two weekends and have gone 4-4 with wins over quality programs in Pierce, Spokane, and Rogue CC.

On a Monday night, with just a day off after the previous weekend tournament in Lynnwood, Everett took on a Green River Program that had only previously played in four matches.  Despite the lack of game experience in 2022 the Gators responded in the first set after getting down by as much as six by rallying and drawing to within 1 at 12-11.  Third year head coach Whitney Williams called a timeout and while the Gators kept it close for a brief period, the Trojans imposed their will to finish out the set claiming it 25-15. Everett recorded 6 service aces and 6 kills and were led by Malia Shepherd's 5 points.

Everett showed more of the same will in the 2nd set building steadily out to as much as an eleven-point lead at 20-9.  The Gators fought back to within 8 but Everett erased all hope of a comeback and took set two by the eleven-point margin at 25-14.  Sarah Campfield had a big set recording an ace, a block, and three kills.

Jayda Grosboll started set three with a pair of service aces and while Green River stayed close through the first 12 points at 6-6, the Trojans made a 6-1 run forcing a Gator timeout.  Back from the short break, Everett continued their run that GRC could not provide an answer for.  The 10-4 run led to Green Rivers final timeout, but EvCC collected the final three points capped by Jolena Hoefer's kill to win set and match 25-13.

For the match the Trojans tallied 17 kills on a .211 hitting percentage and 15 service aces.  Standout performances included Jayda Grosboll's 10 assists, 9 digs, and 4 aces.  Annika Jones recorded a team high 10 digs, and Malia Shepherd led the team with 9 points (6 kills, 3 aces).

Everett will face Green River again, this time in Auburn on Wednesday and will return home for the Everett Crossover tournament on Friday and Saturday where they are scheduled to play four matches. The first will be a shot at redemption at 3:00pm on Friday against Southwestern Oregon a team they lost to back on September 3rd.
