Shutout Win on Faculty Appreciation Night

Shutout Win on Faculty Appreciation Night

Everett, WA - Former Trojan assistant coach A'Laishia Redden led her new team, the Shoreline Dolphins to the Walt Price Center for a matchup against her sister M'Kailah Redden (current assistant coach for EvCC) and the newly ranked #10 Everett Trojans.  The Trojans have not been ranked inside the top 10 since 2014, but the new-found territory did not phase them on faculty appreciation night.

The first set was won convincingly by a score of 25-12.  Shoreline kept it close through the first 23 points at 12-11, but the Trojans went on a 13-1 run to close out the set, led by Malia Shepherd's 5 kills.

Set two was the closest of the night as the Dolphins battled throughout and had the set tied at 21-21.  A kill by Sarah Campfield got EvCC back out in front, where they would remain and carried out the set win at 25-22, punctuated by Erin Ingram's 3rd kill of the set.

The third set was again dominated by the home Trojans, who led by as much as 12 before eventually claiming the set and match by a score of 25-14.

Malia Shepherd ended the match with 10 kills and 5 service aces to go along with her 5 digs. Setter Jayda Grosboll recorded her 14th match with 20 or more assists (25) and Denna Gibb led the night defensively with 12 digs, along with Jessica Daode who had a big night with 2.5 blocks and 5 kills.  The win marks the 9th shutout win of the season, and keeps the Trojans firmly in 3rd place in the north region standings, just one game behind Skagit and Bellevue who are tied for first place.

Everett's next match is a showdown with rival Edmonds, who sits in 5th place and is desperate for a win to keep their playoff chances alive.  Edmonds beat Everett in their last matchup 3-1, but the Trojans can clinch a trip to the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and will have extra motivation to get the win on the road.  That match is set for 7pm on Friday.
