2012 Volleyball News

 

Results vs Yakima Valley (9/6) - The Volleyball Team traveled to Yakima, WA to play their first regular season non-league match with the Yaks of Yakima Valley CC. The match went 3 sets with the Yaks coming out on top. Scores were 25-20; 25-15; 25-20. Highs for the Trojan were: Gabby Small with 10 assists; Rebecca Stella with 26 digs; Hailey Cross with 17 digs and Alyssa Walker with 16 digs. This takes the Trojans to a 01 overall record.  

 

Results vs Yakima Valley "Yes, Again" (9/10) - The Volleyball team hosted the Yakima Valley CC Yaks in a non-league match last night. In the three out of five set, the Yaks won the first three sets to win the match, with scores of 25-21; 25-15; 29-27. This takes the overall record to 0-2.

 

Volleyball Crossover Tournament Results (9/14-15) - Friday & Saturday, September 14th & 15th, the Volleyball team was in Auburn, WA participating in the Green River CC 2012 Crossover Tournament. On Friday, they faced the Road Runners of Linn-Benton CC, Highline CC Thunderbirds and the Knights of Wenatchee Valley College. These were 2 out of 3 matches. The Trojans lost to all three schools, with scores of 14-25, 13-25 to LBCC; 23-25, 19-25 to HCC; and 18-25, 19-25 to WVC. On Saturday morning, they faced the Cardinals of Skagit Valley College in a 2 out of 3 match. They lost 14-25 & 18-25. In bracket play on Saturday afternoon, they faced the Blue Mountain CC Timberwolves in a loser out match. All bracket play is 3 out of 5.  This only went 3 games and unfortunately sent the Trojans home from the tournament - 13-25, 14-25, 6-25. These games take the overall record to 0-7.

 

Results vs Bellevue (9/19) - The Volleyball Team had their first league match at Bellevue College on 9/19. In the 3 out of 5 match, the Bulldogs of Bellevue College beat the Trojans in 3 with scores of 25-13; 25-10; 25-18. The Trojans are 0-1 league and 0-8 overall. Vanessa Van Eyk had 5 kills, Monesa Moore had 4 kills and Hailey Cross had 11 assists.

 

Results vs Whatcom (9/21) - Friday, 9/21, the Volleyball Team headed to Whatcom CC in Bellingham, WA to play the Orcas in a 3 out of 5 league match. The Trojans won the first set (their first set of the season) 2523, however they lost the next three to the Orcas 21-25, 15-25, 22-25. Vanessa Van Eyk had 13 kills, Rebecca Stella had 11 kills & 12 digs, and Hailey Cross had 30 assists. This moves the league record to 0-2 and the overall record to 0-9.

 

Results vs Olympic (9/26) - The Rangers of Olympic College traveled to Everett to play a 3 out of 5 league match with the Trojans on Sept. 26th. The  match started at 7:00pm and was a back and forth match in the first and third set. Unfortunately, the Trojans weren't able to get past the Northern Regions first place Rangers, falling in three sets. Scores were 19-25; 16-25; 21-25. This takes the Trojans to 0-3 in league and 0-10 overall. The Rangers are 3-0 in league and 15-5 overall. Vanessa Van Eyk had 11 kills and Hailey Cross had 22 assists for Everett. Monica Phinney had 7 kills, Ivy Eakes 6 kills & 3 blocks, and Jaclyn Jordan had 26 assists & 3 blocks for the Rangers.

 

Results vs Skagit Valley (9/28) - The Volleyball Team was at Skagit Valley College in Mt. Vernon, WA to play a league match with the Cardinals. The 3 out of 5 match began at 7:00pm and went all 5 games.  The Cardinals won the first set 25-15 and the third set 25-15, with the Trojans winning the second 25-16. The fourth set was a close one with the Trojans winning 25-21 to send it to the fifth and deciding set. The fifth game is played to 15 and a team must win by at least 2 points. This was also a pretty close set, with the Trojans able to get the win 15-11. This gives the Trojans their first win of the season, giving them a 1-3 league record and 1-10 overall record. Rebecca Stella had 10 kills and 13 digs, while Annie Ogle had 15 assists for the Trojans.

 

Results vs Edmonds (10/3) - The Volleyball Team was in Lynnwood, WA to play a 3 out of 5 league match with the Tritons of Edmonds CC.  The first set was a nail biter with the score going to 26-24 in favor of Edmonds. The second and third set were won by Everett 25-18 & 25-16. The fourth set, the Tritons came back and won 25-21 sending the match to the fifth and deciding set. With a four point advantage, the Trojans won the fifth set to win the match 3 sets to 2. Rebecca Stella had 11 kills and 17 digs for the Trojans, while Lindsey Nealson had 8 kills and 8 digs for the Tritons. The Trojans are now 2-3 in league and 2-10 overall. The Tritons are 1-4 league and 3-10 overall.

 

Results vs Shoreline (10/5) - Friday night on October, 5th, the Dolphins of Shoreline CC were in town to play the Trojans in league play. The match started at 7:00pm. Shoreline won in 3 with scores of 25-15; 2520; 25-18. No stats were reported. The Trojans are now 2-4 in league and 2-11 overall while Shoreline is 4-1 in league and 7-9 overall.

 

Results vs Green River (10/10) - The Everett Volleyball Team was at Green River CC in Auburn, WA to play a non-league game with the Gators. The Gators showed why they are in 2nd place in the Western Region beating the Trojans in three games with scores of 25-16; 25-17 & 25-20. Vanessa Van Eyk had 10 kills, Hailey Cross had 22 assists, Asha Lorden & Nicole Hayes each had 9 digs for the Trojans. For the Gators highs were: Gwen Leituala with 13 kills & 11 digs, Agnes Eneliko and Charisma Toilolo each had 14 assists. The Trojans are now 2-13 overall and 2-4 in league while the Gators are 14-6 overall and 5-1 in league.

 

Results @ Pierce Crossover (10/12-13) - Everett's Volleyball Team was in Lakewood, WA participating in the 2012 Pierce College Volleyball Crossover Tournament on Friday Oct. 12th & Saturday Oct. 13th. Pool play was 2 out of 3 with bracket play 3 out of 5. They started out the host Pierce College at 11am on Friday.  The Raiders won in two with scores of 25-9; 25-17. The next game was at 12:30pm against the Roadrunners of Linn-Benton CC. This match went 3 games with the Trojans winning the first and third set with scores of 25-16; 14-25; 15-13.  The final pool play match was against Treasure Valley CC Chukars at 6:30pm. This match also went three sets, however, the Chukars won this one with scores being 12-25; 25-22; 15-11. The Trojans along with Treasure Valley were to play in the C Bracket on Saturday, with Everett being the #3 seed overall in that bracket. They faced the Penguins of Clark College at 9am. With scores of 25-20; 25-23; 25-16, the Penguins won the match and thus sending the Trojans to the loser out bracket. In their next match at 11:00am, the Trojans were pitted against the Trailblazers from Centralia College who lost to Treasure Valley CC at 9am. The Trailblazers proved too much for the Trojans winning in three sets - 25-19; 25-22; 25-20.  The Trojans overall record is now 3-16. 

 

***Congratulations Annie Ogle - Trojan Volleyball player, Annie Ogle was named to the 2012 Pierce College Crossover Tournament All-Tournament Team for her performance at the tournament. Annie is a sophomore from Lynnwood High School.*

 

***Volleyball Player of the Week #7 - Trojan Sophomore, Asha Lorden was named Northern Region Defensive Player of the Week for week #7 for her performance for the week of October 8th - October 14th. With being named for the Northern Region Defensive POW, she was in the running for the NWAACC Defensive POW, however that went to a player from Yakima Valley. Also from the North, Offensive POW KC Fossum and Setter POW - Jaclyn Jordan both from Olympic. Jaclyn Jordan was named the NWAACC Setter POW, while Gwen Letuala from Green River was the NWAACC Offensive POW.*

 

Results vs Bellevue (10/17) - Bellevue College was in Everett on Wednesday October 17th for a league match with the Trojans. In the 3 out of 5 match, the first game was a close one ending with the score being 26-24, however the Bulldogs beat the Trojans. The next two games were for the most part easy wins for the Bulldogs, winning 25-7 & 25-6. With this win, Bellevue is still undefeated in league play 7-0 and 22-9 overall. The Trojans are now 2-5 in league and 3-17 overall. Highs for the Trojans were Alyssa Walker with 5 kills, Rebecca Stella with 10 assists and Nicole Hayes with 10 digs. Bellevue highs were Kylai Cooley with 10 kills, Krista Groves with 26 assists and Madison Agnew with 18 digs.

 

Results vs Whatcom (10/19) - Friday October 19th, the Volleyball Team played a league match against Whatcom Community College at the Student Fitness Center. The first two sets were back and forth, one team would get a head by a couple then the other team would catch up. Both games went to a final score of 27-25, unfortunately, the wins went to Whatcom. In the third set, Whatcom took an early lead, however, the Trojans fought back to 17, but the Orcas won with a score of 25-17, to take the match. Trojan highs were Rebecca Stella with 24 assists, Nicole Hayes 10 digs, Vanessa Van Eyk with 11 kills, and Annie Ogle with 12 kills. Highs for Whatcom were Brittney DeJager with 26 assists, Libby Moore with 10 kills and 8 digs, Alicia Ford with 10 kills and Kathryn Bailey with 9 kills. Everett is now 2-6 in league and 3-18 overall, while Whatcom is 2-5 in league and 5-15 overall.

 

Results vs Olympic (10/22) - On Monday, Oct. 22nd, the Trojan Volleyball Team traveled to Bremerton, WA to play the Olympic College Rangers in league play. The match began at 7:00pm, and in the 3 sets, the Rangers showed why they are the number two team in the Northern Region. They won with scores of 25-19; 25-12; 25-10. Trojan highs came from Hailey Cross with 13 assists; Annie Ogle with 9 kills and Asha Lorden with 11 digs. Ranger highs were KC Fossum with 16 kills, Jaclyn Jordan with 38 assists & 15 digs; and Monica Phinney with 9 kills & 10 digs. The Trojans are now 2-7 in league and overall are 3-19 while the Rangers are 8-1 in league and have an overall record of 24-7.

 

Results vs Skagit Valley (10/24) - The Cardinals of Skagit Valley College were in Everett on Wednesday, Oct. 24th to play a league match with the Trojans. The match began at 7:00pm in the Student Fitness Center and was a 3 out of 5 match. In the first set, the Cardinals out played the Trojans barely, winning 25-22. The Trojans came back to win the next two sets 25-21 & 25-20. The fourth set was a crucial game, as if the Trojans won, they would win the match, however, if the Cardinals won, it would force a 5th and deciding game. With another close game, the Cardinals won 25-21, sending it to the 5th set. The 5th set is only to 15 points with a must win by two points and teams switch sides at 8 points. The game went back and forth and ended with the Trojans winning 16-14. The Trojans are now 3-7 in league and 4-19 overall, while the Cardinals are 1-8 in league and 7-17 overall. Highs for the Trojans are: Annie Ogle with 17 kills; Rebecca Stella with 14 kills & 20 assists; Hailey Cross with 24 assists & 11 digs; and Nicole Hayes with 17 digs. Highs for the Cardinals are: Chynna Lowffler with 10 kills, Brittany Parmentier with 10 kills, Kayla Bell with 40 assists & 10 digs; and Janinie De Guzman with 19 digs.

 

Results vs Green River (10/26) - Friday October 26th, the Gators of Green River CC were in town to play a non-league match with the Trojans. First set started at 7:00pm in the Student Fitness Center. In the 3 out of 5 match, the Gators won 3 sets to the Trojans 1 set. Game scores were 25-13, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20 in favor of Green River. Highs for Everett: Rebecca Stella 10 kills, 11 assists; Hailey Cross 14 assists 7 digs; Nicole Hayes & Katelyn Kelly with 9 digs each. Green River highs: Gwen Leituala 15 kills, 11 digs; Lorraine Toilolo 11 kills; Charisma Toilolo 28 assists, 11 digs; Lindsey Linden 10 digs; Stephanie Sinclair 12 assists.

 

Results vs Edmonds (10/30) - Tuesday, October 30th, the Trojan Volleyball Team held their last home league game of the 2012 season. Before the match began, the six sophomores were acknowledged and thanked for their dedication to EvCC & Trojan Volleyball. Those sophomores are: Asha Lorden, Rebecca Stella, Nicole Hayes, Annie Ogle, Katelyn Kelly, Hailey Cross. After the sophomore acknowledgement, there was the National Anthem and complete line-ups for both teams. After winning the first two sets 25-15 & 25-21, Edmonds didn't realize they would have a fight on their hands for the third set. The Trojans were not gonna go down without a fight and it showed not just in the game but also on the score - Everett won 27-25. This sent it to the fourth set - if Edmonds were to win - match over; however if Everett won - fifth & deciding game would have to be played to 15.  The fourth set went back & forth between the teams until the Trojans took charge to finish with a score of 25-17, forcing a fifth game. In the fifth set, the Tritons of Edmonds tried to keep it close, however, the Trojans were able to take the lead and keep it, winning 15-12.  Everett is now 4-7 in league and 5-20 overall, while Edmonds is 3-8 in league and 822 overall. Highs for Everett: Vanessa Van Eyk - 12 kills; Hailey Cross - 21 assists; Rebecca Stella - 14 assists, 19 digs; Nicole Hayes - 13 digs. Highs for Edmonds: Jessica Boyle - 13 kills; Genevieve Newell - 11 kills; Anjelica Fernandez - 36 assists, 18 digs; Reanne Bobadilla - 15 digs; Cecelia Licciardi - 13 digs.

 

Results vs Shoreline (11/2) - The Trojan Volleyball Team was in Seattle, WA to play the final regular season league match of the 2012 season at Shoreline CC against the Dolphins on Friday night. Shoreline won the match in three sets with scores of 25-14; 25-17; and 25-18.  This secured the Dolphins spot as the third place team of the Northern Region with a league record of 8-3 and overall record of 14-17. The Trojans are 4-8 in league and 5-21 overall and are in 4th place, however they have to wait to until the results of the Edmonds/Whatcom game on Tuesday 11/6. Both Edmonds & Whatcom are 3-8 in league and whomever wins will be tied with Everett for 4th place creating the need for a tie-breaker match. Trojan Highs: Rebecca Stella - 9 kills, 11 assists; Vanessa Van Eyk - 11 digs; Hailey Cross - 11 assists. Dolphins Highs: Lauren Deatrick - 12 kills, 8 digs; Jalyn Anderson 37 assists; Arianna Garcia - 10 kills.

 

Volleyball Tie-Breaker vs Edmonds Results (11/8) - Everett Volleyball hosted Edmonds CC in a tie-breaker match to see who would attend the 2012 NWAACC Volleyball Championships as the 4th place seed from the Northern Region on Thursday night, 11/8/12. Both teams were tied for 4th place in league with a 4-8 record. The match began at 7pm in the Student Fitness Center. The match went 5 close sets, just like it did when the Tritons were at Everett on Oct. 30th. Also, just like on Oct. 30th, the Tritons won the first two sets (25-22; 2523) and the Trojans won the final three (25-21; 25-18; 17-15). This match takes Everett to 5-8 in league and 6-21 overall while Edmonds finishes their 2012 season 4-9 in league and 9-23 overall. The Trojans will attend the NWAACC Championships in Gresham, OR on the campus of Mt. Hood CC. The tournament is a 4 day event with the Trojans first match being at 11:30am on Thursday Nov. 15th against the Thunderbirds of Highline CC. If the Trojans win, they will play at 10am on Nov. 16th against the winner of game #3 (East #3 CC's of Spokane or South #2). If the Trojans lose, they will play at 6:30pm in a loser out match against the loser of game #3.  Highs for the tie-breaker: Everett - Alyssa Walker - 22 kills, Annie Ogle 16 kills, Rebecca Stella 27 assists, Hailey Cross 24 assists, Nicole Hayes & Katelyn Kelly 24 digs each. Edmonds Genevieve Newell 16 kill & 12 digs, Cecelia Licciardi 15 kills, Lindsay Nealson 10 kills & 11 digs, Brianna Davidson 25 digs, Anjelica Fernandez 41 assists & 10 digs.

 

Results @ 2012 NWAACC (11/15) - At the 2012 NWAACC Volleyball Championships, at Mt. Hood CC, the Everett's Volleyball Team faced the Thunderbirds of Highline CC at 11:30am in their first match.  The NWAACC Tournament is a true double elimination tournament - as in, if you lose one match, you can still come back and win the championship title. If you lose, two matches, you are done. The first games for everyone are 3 out of 5 sets, as is the winner's bracket. If a team goes to the loser's bracket, they play 2 out of 3 sets. In Everett's first match, all three sets were very close games with the scores being 25-23; 25-23 & 25-21. Unfortunately, the match was won by Highline CC. For Everett - Annie Ogle 15 kills; Alyssa Walker 11kills; Nicole Hayes 16 digs; Rebecca Stella 12 assists; Hailey Cross 15 assists. Highs for Highline - Mikaela Ballou 25 kills; Ashley Barnum 43 assists; Taylor Johnson 24 digs; Hailey Dunn 10 digs. The win sends Highline to play CC's of Spokane on 11/16, while the loss sends Everett to play at 6:30pm on 11/15 against Umpqua CC. The second match for both the Trojans and the Riverhawks was only 2 out of 3. To win, each team had to play all-out volleyball to continue on in the tournament. With scores of 25-16 & 25-15, the Riverhawks kept their hopes of obtaining the 2012 title alive. Highs for the Trojans - Annie Ogle with 7 kills; Rebecca Stella 8 assists; Hailey Cross with 7 assists and Katelyn Kelly with 5 digs. Highs for Umpqua - Kendahl Weiland and Nicole Hall each with 6 kills and Haley Webb with 11 assists.
