Barene Earns First Collegiate Win

Barene Earns First Collegiate Win

Auburn, WA - Everett XC was back in action this past weekend and traveled to Auburn for a meet hosted by Green River College at Cedar River Trail.  Freshman Caelyn Foster would be the lone runner to represent the Trojans on the women's side. In a field of eight other runners from Green River College and Pierce College, Caelyn finished 6th overall with a time of 23:12, 46 seconds faster than her 5k time from two weeks ago. This was the largest improvement of all three Trojan runners this weekend.

The men would square off with Green River College in a small meet with just 5 scoring runners.  Green River fielded three while Everett entered two into the race.  With less than five members on either team, a modified scoring system was used to calculate team scores.

In the 5k race, freshman Ryan Barene led the pack and posted a time of 16:36, 26 seconds ahead of teammate Jake Waterhouse who finished 2nd overall and 34 seconds faster than the first finisher from Green River. This was Barene's first collegiate win, and those three points from first and second place finishes were enough to overcome the default 7 points for not having a third runner. The Trojans scored a total of 10 points to Green River's 14.   Ryan Barene's time was a 25 second improvement from two weeks ago and Jake's time of 17:02 was a 6 second improvement.

The recovery will be short as the Trojans will host a tri meet this coming weekend with two strong opponents in Edmonds College and Whatcom Community College.  The women's race will be close among the top runners from each of the respective schools Christina Savenkova (Edmonds), Alyce Harlan (Whatcom), and Avery Daniels (Everett).  For the men, it will be the first 8k race of the season in preparation for the final meet on March 24th
