The Everett Community College cross country program got its first look at the course that will host the 2022 NWAC Championship meet on November 12th, competing in the John Payne/Curtis Invitational Saturday at Chambers Creek Regional Park. The event featured two NCAA DII programs in Western Washington University and Saint Martin's University, a DIII program in Pacific Lutheran University, and several NWAC schools in Whatcom, Pierce, Olympic, and Edmonds.
The EvCC women entered 3 runners, and were led by freshman Emma Arceo who placed 21st overall and 6th among NWAC competitors. The course was a slow 5k, and did not present an opportunity for any runner to set fast times, but Emma raced strongly with a time of 22:06. Teammates Kayle Shueller and Johanna Schmidt finished 25:00 and 25:10.
The men raced a full team of 5 in the 8k, also a slower course. Another Trojan freshman, Liam O'Brian, led the men with a time of 30:13 finishing 32nd overall and 6th among the NWAC competitors. The next to finish was transfer sophomore Raymond Kirwa with a time of 34:28. The team was rounded out by three more freshman finishers: Luke Pusateri, Vitalii Shvets, and Joseph Heisley.
Everett will race next on Saturday, October 15th in Oregon at the Lewis and Clark Invitational. That race will feature runners from 4-year universitites as well as other NWAC competition.
