Trojans Grind Out Win Over Edmonds

Lynnwood, WA - The women's soccer team kept their playoff hopes alive on Wednesday afternoon, with a win over rival Edmonds College while simultaneously securing a full point towards the T-Trophy Rivalry standings.  The Trojans handled the Tritons 4-1 in the previous meeting back in September, but Edmonds played with confidence on their own home turf.   Through the first 25 minutes, the score was deadlocked at zero and both teams tested the keepers forcing saves.  But in the 27th minute Paige Runcorn connected on her 4th goal of the season, 7th of her career to put Everett in front.  With momentum, the Trojans struck again in the 36th minute, this time it was freshman Alexis Bell who struck a long ball just over the out stretched arms of the keeper from 35 yards out.  The goal would be Bell's 4th of the season.

The Trojans went into the break 2-0 and control over the match, but Edmonds struck quickly in the opening moments of the second half off of a free kick.  A well placed ball into the box from the right wing bounced over the head of goalkeeper Ruby Wacker and then was put away by a charging Edmonds player.  Despite giving up the early second half goal, the Trojan defense held solid for the remainder of the game, giving up just two more shots on goal, none of which required a save from Wacker.  Everett's offense was not quite as sharp in the second half as in the first, but still gott off five shots, forcing a pair of saves on balls from Jessica Roesler and Paige Runcorn.

With the win, Everett remains just a point behind Bellevue for third place in the NWAC north region standings for the final spot in the playoffs.  The Trojans will host an important match up with Bellevue this Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium.  Kick off is set for 12pm.
