Trojan Athletics Year in Review

The Trojans capped off an incredibly competitive 2022-2023 year with recognition from the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCCA) who announced the final standings in the prestigous Daktronics and Learfield Cups.  The Trojans finished 10th in the State Association Division and 19th in the Learfield Directors Cup.

  • 2 Trips to NWAC Final Fours (Men's Soccer in the Semi Finals, Men's Basketball in the Championship Game)
  • 90 Athletes on the EvCC Honor Roll
  • 22 on the President's List with 4.0 GPA's
  • 4 former athletes, 1 former coach, and 1 team inducted into the EvCC Athletics Hall of Fame

Cross Country

All five Trojan men PR'd in the championship meet, led by freshman Liam O'Brian with a time of 28:50 and Diadie Diarra who shaved a stunning 3:46 seconds off of his 8k time; The men finished 9th overall as a team; The women were led by freshman Emma Arceo who ran a PR 20:47 and three soccer players, joined the squad; The ladies finished 6th overall and were just 5 points away from 5th place; Six athletes made the academic honor roll and the women's team had team GPA of 3.43.

Women's Soccer

6-6-1 overall record led by 2nd year head coach Nicole Nsa; Upset Skagit Valley at home, and narrowly missed a playoff berth by just one point in the standings; Elizabeth Martinez & Amy Gonzalez Rios received first team north region selection and were invited to play in the NWAC All Star Game; Eleven team members made the academic honor roll and the team GPA improved to 3.05 up from 2.44 last season.

Men's Soccer

13-4-4 record led by 2nd year head coach Kieren Raney; Advanced to semi finals for first time since 1989; 13 wins tied the EvCC single season overall win total; 67 goals scored broke the EvCC single season team record; Avary Olson was first team all region; Emmanuel Escalante set single season assist record (12); River Stewart set single season goal scoring record (30), career record (46), was named North Region MVP, and NWAC Player of the Year. Seven team members made the academic honor roll.

Women's Volleyball

19-15 record by 3rd year head coach Whitney Williams first winning season since 2014 and first trip to the playoffs since 2015; The team had the second highest average for points per set with 13.6, and the most service aces per set of all time at EvCC with 2.59. Jayda Grosboll, Sarah Campfield, and Erin Ingram were named sophomore All-Stars, and Malia Shepherd was named First Team North Region; Williams was named North Region Coach of the Year; Six team members made the academic honor roll.

Women's Basketball

It was a tough year for the team finishing with a 3-21 record under 2nd year head coach Jeannie Thompson.  The team went 3-1 to start the season but injuries stacked up and took their toll on the remainder of the season.  Sophomore Mikail Montez suffered a season ending injury otherwise would have likely broke the career rebounding record, she finished with 441 and sits 3rd all time; Five team members made the academic honor roll.

Men's Basketball

25-8 overall record in Mike Trautman's 7th and final season as head coach. Trautman decided to step away from coaching and assistant Daniel Thompson was hired to take the reigns; The team won 4 games in a row to close out the regular season, finished 2nd in the north region, and advanced to the championship game for the first time since 1995; 2,821 points is the most total points scored in the last 15 years and four players received post season honors including Leon Sayers who was a NBCA All American; Five individuals appeared on the academic honor roll.

Men's Basketball Athlete of the Year, Tucker Molina

Track and Field

Khalil Gilbert was the lone All American finishing second in the 400m, running 48.95 (3rd all time at EvCC); Jamira Barnes was the women's high point finisher (7.5) with the EvCC 3rd all time multi event score, and Iayanah Brewer finished 6th in the 100 hurdles (15.72, 4th all time at EvCC) with 6.5 team points. Other top finishers included Jayda Pittman (7th in the 400m), Emma Arceo (4th in the 800m), and Denna Gibb (4th in the javelin).  11 individuals made the academic honor roll.

Softball

27-12 overall record and finished 2nd in the north region in head coach Randy Smith's 21st season and picked up his 450th career win; Most prolific offense in school history with .428 team average, 428 runs scored, 485 hits, 101 doubles, 405 RBI's, and 70 home runs all being the most in a single season in program history; The team advanced to the final 6 in the NWAC Championship tournament for the 2nd straight season; 8 were named to the all region teams, and Maddie German was north region MVP; 8 sophomores graduated with a team GPA of 3.27, and 10 individuals made the academic honor roll.

Baseball

26-28 overall record with a 15-15 north region record under first year head coach Keith Hessler; The team qualified for the NWAC playoffs for the 7th straight season, and won two playoff games, finishing in the top 12; Nine Trojans received all region honors, and Sheehan O'Connor was all region gold glove at third base; Several of the sophomores are moving on to continue their playing careers including Elias Holbert going to DI Coastal Carolina University; the team GPA is 3.10 and 23 individuals made the academic honor roll.
