Nikki Anderson (Pewitt)

Nikki Anderson (Pewitt) came to Everett CC after a standout prep career where she helped Monroe reach back to back WIAA State Tournament appearances, playing for Hall of Fame Coach Alan Dickson. Near the end of her junior year, Nikki learned that she was pregnant and on November 13th of her senior year, Pewitt delivered her daughter, Jordyn. Four weeks later, Pewitt returned to the hardwood, and took the Bearcats to another state tournament.

After a redshirt season at Western Washington University, Nikki returned home and enrolled at Everett CC.  Nikki’s 6’3” frame was a problem for NWAACC opponents and she dominated inside the paint, averaging 18.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in the 2002-2003 season.  She also averaged 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals each game and shot over 50% from the floor.  She is one of 11 players in EvCC women’s basketball history to average a double double, and ranks 3rd all time in single season rebounds (315), 5th in free throws made (125), 7th in field goal percentage (50.9%) and 9th all time in single season points (530).

Nikki was named the North Region MVP that season, and led the Trojans to a 21-9 record and a second place finish in the north region standings.  The #2 seed out of the north was secured on the final game of the regular season against Bellevue where Nikki scored a then school record 42 points and added 17 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.  At the NWAACC tournament, the Trojans advanced to the quarterfinals and Nikki finished the season as the NWAACC leading rebounder and free-throw shooter and third overall scorer.

After completing her AA with a 3.5 GPA, she was then recruited to play at Seattle University. In her first and only season with the RedHawks, Nikki started in 11 of 22 games played, averaging 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.  She led the team in scoring 5 times that season, with a season high of 18 points against Fort Lewis.

At the conclusion of the season a coaching change prompted Nikki to make the decision to focus on raising her family and finish school.  She completed her teaching certification and got her masters in teaching and administration credentials. After 15 years of teaching special education, Nikki is now an assistant principal at Arlington High School.

Nikki enjoys spending time with her family, giving back to the community and attending sporting events.  She has four children and two grandchildren, and resides here in Snohomish County.

Chet Hovde

Coach Hovde first came to EvCC in 1978 as the men's assistant coach in which the team went 21-8, won a region championship, and placed 5th in the NWAACC tournament.  The next season, he joined the women's basketball program as an assistant, just in its 2nd year of NWAACC sanctioned existence, and took over midway through the 1979-1980.

However, an opportunity became available at his alma mater, the University of Puget Sound in the fall of 1980 to coach the women's team there.  The Loggers had two winning seasons with Hovde before he decided to return to the Everett CC women's program and assisted Doug Nixon for the 1982-1983 season where the team went 23-7 and finished 3rd in the NWAACC tournament.

Chet would get another head coaching opportunity at rival Edmonds Community College in the 1985-1986 season.  He took over a program that could not consistently fill a full roster and took the Tritons to two straight 20 win seasons for the first time in program history, finishing the '86-'87 season 4th in the NWAACC and is to date the highest finish in Edmonds CC women's basketball history.

His success would bring him back to his hometown of Everett for the '88-'89 season, where he would take over an EvCC women's basketball program that had not won a game over the past two seasons.  Coach Hovde led the team to nine wins in his first full season as the head women's coach at EvCC and then went on to rack up 442 career wins over the next 32 years taking the Trojans to 14 NWAC tournaments and winning three North Region Championships.

Coach Hovde's coaching career spanned 40 years of which he coached hundreds of young women, most of which went on to four year universities to continue their basketball careers and education while some even became coaches themselves.

Prior to coaching Chet was a 1st team all state basketball player at Everett High before he was recruited on a full ride scholarship to the University of Washington in 1965.  He played for the Huskies for two seasons before transferring to the University of Puget Sound to finish out his junior and senior year, earning his bachelor's degree in education.
Chet passed away on March 9th, 2024 but his legacy will live on. His calm demeanor and positivity gave his players confidence, and helped them grow. He had a lot of successes on the basketball court as a coach, but even more important than that was his dedication to all the young women he coached and the impact that he has had on their lives.

Scott Miller

Scott Miller is perhaps one of the best, most accomplished throwers to ever compete for Everett Community College in track and field.  After winning the state high school championship in the discus at Bellevue Christian High School, Scott came to Everett Community College where he competed as a freshman in the 2014 track and field season.  In that season Scott threw the javelin, discus, and shot put, hitting a season best in the discus at 147’ 8”, placed 5th in that event at the NWAC Championships, and took first place in the shot put when he hit a then PR of 50’ 10.25”.  In his sophomore season, Miller set a new school record in the discus by throwing 166’ 2” and later won the NWAC Championship in the discus. The mark of 166’ 2” is the 8th best mark in NWAC history.  He also won the shot put with a new PR of 52’ 1.75”. That is the 2nd furthest mark in school history for that event and 24th best mark in NWAC history.  Scott is on a short list of Trojans to be named a 3x NWAC All American.

Scott went on to compete at Eastern Washington University where he improved his discus throw by just over 12 feet, and his shot put by over two and a half feet. By his senior year, Scott won several meets in both the shot put and discus, culminating his career at the Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships where he placed fifth in the shot and tenth in the discus.

Scott is a firefighter with the Kennewick Fire Department and lives in the Tri-Cities with his wife Samantha and two children.

Seth Pierson

Seth Pierson ran both cross country and track for the Trojans in 2010 and 2011.  For cross Seth was an integral member of the teams that finished 2nd in the NWAACC in both 2009 and 2010.  Seth placed 10th overall in 2009 and 6th overall in 2010.  He held the team’s fastest 8k time that season of 25:45.6.

His most distinctive accomplishments came on the track where he specialized in the middle distances.  In his freshman year, Seth took 6th in the 800m and finished first in the 1,500m, scoring 13 total points and finishing as the teams high point scorer.  In his sophomore track season, Seth repeated as the NWWAAC 1,500m champion and set a PR earlier in the season with a time of 3:52.82 at the Oregon Preview meet.  That time is behind only fellow Hall of Famer Gene Cummings on the EvCC All Time List and ranks 8th on the NWAC All Time List.  In the same season Seth also set a new PR in the 800m with a time of 1:54.05, which ranks 6th on the EvCC All Time List.

Seth was named the EvCC male student athlete of the year and went on to compete at Seattle Pacific University where he went on to win the GNAC title in the 1500 and placed 18th at NCAA DII national Championships.

Seth and his wife of 10 years, who was at EvCC to cheer him on during his racing days, live in Wenatchee and have two sons and a dog.  Seth is the director of finance for an agricultural company and he still enjoys running almost every day.

Erica Ryan (Merkley)

Erica Ryan, formerly Merkley played one season for the Trojan women’s basketball team in the 2001-2002 season.  At the time she was 29 years old, a mother of two children, and had taken 10 years off from playing competitive basketball.  Still, Erica returned to the hardwood and was an instant impact, averaging 16 points per game while hauling in 467 total rebounds.  To this day that mark still holds the record for the most rebounds in a single season in EvCC women’s basketball history.   She also holds the record for the highest rebounding averaging at 14.6 per game. Erica could fill it up from the floor and made 217 field goals which is the 5th most all time and once scored 39 points in a single game which at the time was a single game scoring record.

Erica led the team to a successful season, a third place finish in the north region and a top 12 finish at the NWAACC Championship tournament.  Erica was named the north region most valuable player and was also the EvCC Female athlete of the year

Ryan Sells

Ryan Sells is among the best two-way players to have ever put on a Trojan baseball uniform.  In his single season with EvCC in 2012, Sells posted a 1.67 ERA in 9 starts, collecting 8 wins and striking out 42 batters in 59 innings pitched, he also hit .416 with 4 homeruns and 26 RBI's.  Ryan was instrumental in the teams success that season, helping the 2012 squad win the program’s 2nd north region championship under hall of fame head coach Levi Lacey. The team also won five games in the NWAC post-season and placed third overall. Sells pitched in two playoff games which included a complete game shutout against Yakima giving up just 4 hits and striking out 7 batters.

Sells was named the north region MVP, NWAC MVP, American Baseball Coaches Association First Team All American Infielder and within the last couple years was named NWAC 1st Team All-Decade Utility for his time at EvCC. He then was recruited to continue his collegiate career with national NAIA powerhouse Lewis and Clark State College in Idaho.  In his senior season he batted .366 with 11 home runs and 55 RBIs while leading the Warriors to a 47-9 season. He also saw action as a pitcher and was named All NAIA West Region, All-American Honorable Mention and named to the 2014 All-World Series Team.

Ryan played professionally and not long after eventually turning to coaching.  He is currently the head baseball coach at his alma mater, Mountlake Terrace High School where he has been coaching for the past 6 years. Most recently Sells led the Hawks to the quarterfinals of the 2024 WIAA State Tournament.  He also works as a high school teacher and is happily married to his wife Shelby and has 2 children, Harper and Paxton.

2013 Men's Cross Country Team

The 2013 men’s cross country team was the second men’s team to win an NWAC championship under head coach Matt Koenigs. The squad opened up the season with high expectations, coming off of a 3rd place finish in 2012, but were humbled in the first meet finishing 3rd overall in the NWAC preview, and 21 points behind first place powerhouse Lane Community College.

The Trojans steadily improved over the next several weeks and started to turn heads at the Charles Bowles Willamette Invite where EvCC finished 7th among 20 teams and beat out all NWAC competition which included Lane and Clackamas, the two teams to finish in front of Everett in the preview meet.

The team took second at the PLU Invite, just a few points behind NCAA DII Western Oregon and swept the competition at the North Region Championship, scoring a perfect 15 team points, and placed individuals one through eight, led by Keefe Hanson’s season best 8k of 26:37.3.

Despite the successes of the season, much of the attention heading into the NWAC Championship race was placed on the top runners from Lane, Spokane, and Clackamas.  Still the team held together, and got gutsy performances from all seven runners.  Mason Nicol ran one of his best races of the season and finished first for the Trojans, 4th overall beating out one of Lane’s top runners.  Both Everett and Lane placed three runners inside the top 10 finishers, the only teams to do so.  For Everett it was Keefe Hanson at 7th and Kris Mugrage at 9th overall.

With only two runners left to score it was critical that Mohammud Abdi edged Lane’s 4th place runner by ten seconds and Mark Garcia rounded out the Trojan scoring by beating Lanes 5th place runner by seven seconds.  Teammates Mitch Beard and Jeffrey Ott had roles to play by displacing runners from Clackamas and Spokane to keep those two teams at bay.  When the final points were tallied, Everett defeated Lane 52-50.  Only five times in NWAC history has first place been decided by two or fewer points.

Members of the 2013 team include: Mohamud Abdi, Rogelio Bahena, Mitch Beard, Gary Davis, Stephen Dietz, Jack Espinoza, Mark Garcia, Keefe Hanson, Cody Hoskins, Bryan Islas-Martinez, Devin McCrary, Kris Mugrage, Mason Nicol, Jeffrey Ott, Alfredo Rodriguez, Matthew Schwittay, and Thomas Zabelka.
