The 1969 and 1970 golf teams were among the school’s all-time best. A strong tradition of golf excellence continued in 1969, when the undefeated 10–0 regular season was followed up with both the league’s Northern Division title and the state championship. The team was composed of 11 freshmen and only one returning sophomore, Mike Gugich.
Coached by Ed Puck, the 1970 Everett Community College golf team won every match they played on their way to their second consecutive state championship. Freshman Terry Wiens tied for state medalist honors on the 12-0 squad and went on to play at the university and professional levels. Six of the sophomores were also state champions on the 1969 undefeated team. Victories included a win over the UW Frosh team where EvCC set a team record low score of 277; Steve Ebert led the team that day with a score of 66.
Golfers on these teams included: Dick Faulkner, Steve Farrand, Mike Gugich, Gary Hoiby, Dave Jackson, Ron Wike, Steve Ebert, Joe Pereira, George Schindler, Gordon Shewfelt, Steve Thomas, Bob Zimmerman, Harold Andersen, Tom Douglas, Tom Hardy, and Terry Wiens.
