Darrell Walker

Darrell Walker was a WESCO All league basketball player out of Marysville Pilchuck High School.  He played three years of varsity leading his team in assists and steals and averaging 18.6 points per game by the time he was a senior.

After high school Darrell chose Everett Community College to continue his basketball career and play for his hero and father, Larry ‘The Legend’ Walker.  Darrell was drawn to Everett because he loved the style of play his dad had developed. He averaged 14.8 points a game and led the Trojans as well as the NWAACC in assists and was second in steals his Freshman year. He also made Second Team All-League Honors in the North Division. His Sophomore season, the Trojans went on to place sixth after losing at the buzzer in the semifinals at the NWAACC Championships. Darrell averaged 18.2 points a game that year and once again led his team and the NWAACC in assists and steals. He currently holds the all-time Everett Community College record for assists and steals and is number six all time in points.  Many may not know this but Darrell also played two years of college soccer at Everett Community College.

After leaving Everett, Darrell chose to continue his basketball career at Eastern Washington University, a NCAA Division 1 school in the Big Sky Conference. There he would choose to redshirt his first year and after that first quarter go on to earn a full ride scholarship to play basketball for the Eagles for the next two years. While at Eastern he earned academic all American honors and won a share of the Big Sky Conference Title his Junior  year.

That next year, what would have been his Senior year, Darrell would decide to make an incredibly difficult decision and instead of going back to Eastern he would choose to transfer to Seattle Pacific University. There he would go on to earn his degree in education as well as a full ride scholarship to play and finish his collegiate basketball career for the Falcons. While there he would go on to start and help lead his team to an incredible 28-5 season in a very competitive GNAC  Conference and would fall one game short of advancing to the National Championships. After SPU Darrell would get an opportunity to play professionally overseas, but turned it down and instead chose to buy a house, start his teaching career and marry the love of his life.

He did however get an opportunity back in 2007 to play semi-professional basketball in the Everett Event Center for the ‘Everett Explosion’ with former teammate and fellow EvCC Hall of Fame inductee Corby Schuh.

Darrell currently lives in Arlington Washington and is in his 20th year of teaching Health and Fitness in the Marysville School District. He has coached at pretty much every level from middle school to college, including here at Everett with his dad for nearly ten years. He currently is coaching his daughters basketball and soccer teams and said it is a dream come true for him. He takes raising his daughters very seriously and thanks God everyday for such an amazing opportunity.

Darrell and his incredible wife of 18 years, Abby Walker also own Walker’s Coffee Company and have a couple local coffee shops here in Snohomish County. Darrell and Abby have three very hard working, talented, and loving daughters, Jersey, Finley, and Landrey.

Lastly, he would like to also include a special thanks to his mom and dad for all their support over the years. He would like everyone to know that his time here at Everett was by far his most favorite days of attending school and playing hoops. Playing for his dad ranked second to none and he is overjoyed that his dad gave him the name ‘Larry Darrell Walker’ because now he can say he too has a basketball court named after him. Thanks Dad, I love you!
