Former Trojan Skipper, Guinn Headed to MLB's Red Sox

Everett, WA - Major League Baseball added another former EvCC Trojan baseball head coach to the payroll when the Red Sox announced their 2025 MLB Coaching Staff.  Parker Guinn has been hired as the catching instructor and bullpen catcher after two successful seasons in the New York Yankees organization as a manager in the Dominican Summer League.  The Red Sox finished the 2024 season with a .500 record in an extremely competitive American League East division.  Guinn will work with a catching staff led by Connor Wong who ended up being the team's most consistent offensive players and one of the organizations top prospects in Kyle Teel who moved up to AAA by the end of 2024 and could make the MLB roster in 2025.

Parker Guinn left the University of Utah coaching staff in the summer of 2021 and took over the EvCC baseball program where he had some big shoes to fill, succeeding JoJo Howie who amassed a 99-44 record with two north region championships and a trip to the Championship game in 2019.  Guinn did not shy away from the challenge, and after scheduling a tough non conference schedule, closed out the 2022 regular season winning 14 of 15 games to clinch the program's 3rd consecutive North Region Title.  The team went 34-16 in Guinn's lone season and won three games at the NWAC Championship tournament, finishing 3rd and was named the North Region Coach of the Year.

Everett outscored opponents 270 runs to 156 and while their offensive numbers consistently ranked inside the top 10 in the NWAC, it was on the defensive side that they really stood out.  The pitching staff combined for an earned run average of 2.32 which ranked the best in the NWAC, and the combined 428 strikeouts is the most all time in a single season at EvCC.  Several Trojans had impressive stat lines and earned places on the first and second all region teams. Konnor Palmeira was the north region MVP, and made second team all american while three others earned gold glove honors.

In addition to all of the accomplishments on the field this team also performed very well in the classroom.  Twenty one athletes made the academic honor roll, including five on the dean's list with 3.6 or higher GPA's and eight on the President's list with 4.0 GPA's.  Overall the team GPA is 3.1 and many athletes have already made their commitments to continue their education and playing careers at 4-year colleges and universities.

Guinn joins Levi Lacey (Hall of Fame EvCC Baseball head coach 2001-2017) as a former EvCC coach at the professional level, Lacy having been with the Texas Rangers since 2017 in a variety of lead scouting roles, and Guinn's predecessor JoJo Howie (head coach at EvCC (2018-2021) is now the head pitching coach at NCAA Division I Virginia Commonwealth University.
