The men's soccer team is undefeated through the first 8 matches of the season, something that has not been accomplished in 43 years of the program's history and Saturday's 2-1 come from behind win over powerhouse Whatcom CC is proof that the 2019 squad could contend for an NWAC Title. 

Whatcom entered the game coming off of a 1-1 draw with Edmonds in their last match and desperately wanting to pick up three points on the road to keep pace in the competitive North Region. 

The Orcas drew first blood, with a well placed ball across the penalty box that found the head of Zack Tuttle and proceeded to apply heavy pressure all throughout the first half with 13 shots, 8 of which where on goal and sophomore goalkeeper for the Trojans, Cameron Beardsley saved seven of them.  Meanwhile the Trojan offense never truly tested the Whatcom goalkeeper, and only mustered one shot but that was not on frame.  

Everett's offense picked up slightly in the 2nd half, but the Orca defense still did a nice job of limiting opportunities.  It was not until the 77th minute when the Trojans tied the game off of a long throw in by Cade Cooke sailed into the penalty box.  Somehow through a crowd of bodies, freshman defender Jacob Woodward got his head on the ball to score his first career collegiate goal.

Work was not done for the Trojans, and they were not content with a draw with about 13 minutes of regulation remaining.  Deja Vu was in the air as EvCC earned another throw in inside Orca territory at the 87th minute.  Once again Cade Cooke sent a long throw in almost 50 yards into the box.  At over 6 feet tall defensive midfielder, Mamadi Sarr got position on a smaller Whatcom defender and flicked the ball with his head into the back of the net scoring his 4th goal on the season, and the 8th in his career.  

Everett held on to secure the win, and the three points earned elevated the Trojans into first place in the North Region standings after Peninsula and Edmonds played to a 0-0 draw earlier in the day. 

The Trojans will play next Wednesday on the road at Skagit Valley to face a 1-2 Cardinals team who are coming off of a confidence building game, defeating Shoreline CC 3-1.
