Trojans are Playoff-Bound

Trojans are Playoff-Bound

The 2019 men's soccer team is headed to the playoffs for the third straight season under 4th-year head coach Erik Cruz.  Today's match against the already crowned North Region champions, Peninsula College had playoff position implications, but the Trojans had already punched their ticket last weekend in their win over Skagit Valley.  A win or tie today would have ensured the #2 seed in the playoffs and the right to host the first round of the playoffs (against Southwestern Oregon CC).  A loss would mean that Whatcom CC could jump the Trojans in the standings and push EvCC to third place.   While third still has a playoff spot, they would have  to travel to Lane Community College in Eugene, OR.

Even with a playoff spot locked regardless, EvCC still had plenty of motivation heading into the final match of the regular season.  On top of it being sophomore day, the Trojans have lost to Peninsula in the two previous matches this year and certainly aimed to close out conference play with a win.

Despite these factors, Peninsula still came out with a bang and scored a goal within the first minute of the match on a missed defensive assignment.  The Trojans responded and controlled possession for the remainder of the half, but could not capitalize on opportunities.

In the 72nd minute, the Pirates found a 2nd goal, and from that point were able to ride the two goal lead to the final whistle.

The loss moves Everett to 3rd place in the North Region Standings, finishing with  a 9-5-1 region record and a 12-5-3 overall record.  The twelve wins ties the win total from last season which also happens to be the most wins of any Trojans men's soccer team in the programs history.

The first round of the playoffs is set for next Wednesday at Lane Community College in Eugene, OR.  Game time is to be determined.
