Surrey, BC - Trojan head softball coach Randy Smith picked up win number 500 (and number 501) of his career as EvCC got the doubleheader sweep over the Royals of Douglas College in Surrey, British Columbia.
The visiting squad put on a hitting clinic combining for 29 hits in the two games winning 13-5 and 11-4. In Game 1, Everett had to battle back after falling behind early, but a relentless offensive attack led by Emma Hansen, Emmajoy Wise, and Taryn Takayoshi powered the comeback. Hansen set the tone with a two-run homer in the first inning and finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Wise also starred, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Takayoshi went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including a key two-run double late in the game.
Alissa Hermansen delivered a strong two-way performance, driving in a run with a double and pitching all five innings for the win, allowing five runs (four earned) and striking out three. Olivia Boures added two hits and two RBIs, and Renee Riggins chipped in with an RBI and a stolen base.
Everett's bats stayed hot in Game 2. Wise led off the scoring with a solo home run, and Takayoshi later crushed a three-run homer in the seventh to put the game away. Hermansen also went deep, smashing a three-run shot in the fourth. Wise finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Takayoshi collected three more RBIs, totaling six across the two games.
In the circle, Takayoshi was in control all game, tossing a complete game seven-hitter, allowing just one earned run while striking out two.
Other key contributors included Kirstyn Scott, who had a multi-hit game, Renee Riggins, who scored twice and got on base four times, and Gracie Salverda, who drove in a run.
For coach Smith, it was a milestone in an already ilustrious career. He began coaching the Trojans in 2003, and in just his second season won 25 games leading EvCC to their first post season appearance. Since that time, Everett has made the playoffs in all but three seasons which includes, three north region championships and a trip to the NWAC championship game in 2011. The 2025 Trojans have 27 wins and ten games left in the regular season. More importantly, EvCC sits on top of the north region standings and 5th in the RPI rankings which positions them to make a strong run towards the program's first ever NWAC Championship.
