Portland, OR - The Everett magic continued on Saturday at the NWAC Championship tournament, and the #6 ranked Trojans advanced to the NWAC Championship game for the second time in program history. The last time being in 2011 when the underdog Trojans made a historic run, meeting up with powerhouse Mt. Hood. The Saints overmatched EvCC and went on to win their third straight Championship.
The 2025 Trojans faced off with 46-0 Lower Columbia as the only two remaining unbeaten teams in the tournament. Lower Columbia jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Everett answered with 2 runs of their own to keep the game close through three innings. The top NWAC offense finally caught fire and pulled away with a final score of 10-3. Taryn Takayoshi led the charge for the Trojans with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, including a clutch two-run double in the third. Alissa Hermansen also chipped in with an RBI single and threw all six innings in the circle.
Everett proved they could hang with the Red Devils, being the only team in the tournament to take LCC to all 7 innings, and scoring the most runs against them.
Bouncing back in the second game, Everett punched their ticket to the title game rematch with a gritty 3-1 win over Columbia Basin, showing poise, power, and relentless energy. Taryn Takayoshi was unstoppable on both sides of the ball, tossing a complete game and driving in two early runs to give Everett the spark they needed. Emma Hansen stayed hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 and adding a clutch RBI in the second inning. Shayne Hoekendorf brought the hustle, collecting two hits and swiping a base to keep the pressure on. The Trojans struck early and never looked back, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings. Despite a late homer from Columbia Basin, Everett's defense locked in and closed it out in style. Every out mattered, and the team delivered with confidence and composure.
Championship day on Sunday will feature the first game at 11:00am. If the Trojans can pull off the upset, they will face Lower Columbia again in a winner take all game that would immediately follow the first game.
