Trojans Compete at Peyton-Shotwell Invite

Tacoma, WA - Trojan track and field returned to the University of Puget Sound on Saturday for the Peyton Shotwell Invitational which featured a number of NCAA Division III, NAIA, and NWAC schools along with local track clubs.  The EvCC women featured a trio of throwers including freshman Ana Camara who participated in her first collegiate meet.  Camara finished 12th overall in the shot put with a distance of 29' 6.5" and 10th overall in the discus throwing 92'10".  Both of those marks rank 18th and 19th in the NWAC respectively.  Sophomores Sierra Flores and Sophia Mackenzie also threw the discus, Mackenzie going a season best 89'0" and Flores with the furthest mark of the group, placing 7th overall in the meet with a new PR of 103' 2".  That mark brings her up to 13th in the NWAC.  Flores also threw the shot and placed 13th overall, just behind Camara.

On the men's side, the Trojans brought a squad of sprinters mixed with some middle distance competitors.  Jack Mehl ran his first 100m of the outdoor season, and placed 5th overall with a time of 11.26.  He now holds the 8th faststed time in the NWAC.   Fellow sprinters Josh Hodges and Ryan Cole placed 10th and 11th with times of 11.60 and 11.61 respectively.  For Hodges it would be a PR by one hundredth of a second.  Hodges also led the way for the Trojans in the 200m, PR'ing by two tenths of a second with a time of 23.74 and finishing  13th overall.  Teammates Ryan Cole and Robert Lane ran 23.80 and 24.44.  Hodges ranks 15th in the NWAC in the 200m.

Lone sophomore Khalil Gilbert ran his first 400m race of the season, placing 3rd with a time of 50.34. It's a second and a half slower than his PR set last year at the NWAC Championships, but he still holds the 4th fastest time in the NWAC this season, and his PR of 48.95 would lead the NWAC.
