Trojans Show Out at NW Region Championships
Bremerton, WA - Trojan Track and Field closed out the regular season meet schedule on Sunday in Bremerton at the Northwest Regional Track and Field Championships.  Four schools competed, host Olympic College, Green River (Auburn, WA), Pierce (Lakewood, WA), and Everett.   This was the final weekend for athletes to qualify for the NWAC Championships which will be hosted in Gresham, OR on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College on May 20th and 21st.  
 
Five Trojans won events in Bremerton including Jack Mehl in the 100m, setting a new PR with a time of 10.98, Emma Arceo won the 800m, and Denna Gibb won the javelin.  Two other athletes won multiple events; Alexis Buhman winning the 1500m by four tenths of a second, and the 5,000m race a bit more comfortably by nearly 30 seconds.  Khalil Gilbert won three events, the 200m (PR), 400m, and long jump (PR), and also ran strong legs in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams in which EvCC took 1st in both of those races.  Their 4x100m time of 43.33 is a new season best and moves them up to 7th on the NWAC Performance List.  
 
Other Trojans to hit PR's at the Northwest Championships were Liam Naicker, Josh Hodges, Isabelle Gutierrez, and Denna Gibb in the 100m; Robert Lane in the 400m; Vitalii Shvets in the 800m; Emma Arceo in the 1500m; Eugene Kimutai in the 5000m; Anna Camara (shot put); and Brandon Bruss in both the shot put and the discus.
 
Four athletes on the men's side have auto qualified in five events, and three other athletes could still qualify depending on the entry lists that are submitted on Monday.  Both relay teams have also qualified.  Khalil Gilbert will be the athlete to watch as he has qualified in the 200m (seeded 8th), 400m (seeded 3rd), and the long jump (seeded 4th).  He also runs big legs in the 4x100m relay team (seeded 7th) and the 4x400m relay team (seeded 2nd).  
 
On the women's side, five athletes have auto qualified across six events, and another could still get in (pending entries).  Three women have opportunities to land a spot on the All American list by finishing in the top 3 in their respective events. Jessica Henry currently ranks 4th in the 10,000m but just 4 seconds behind 3rd. Alexis Buhman currently has the 3rd fastest 5,000m time and could also get on the podium in the 1,500m. Denna Gibb is just a couple feet away from breaking the EvCC all time record in the Javelin and currently has the 2nd best Javelin mark in the NWAC.
