Tacoma, WA - Ten Collegiate teams competed at the Peyton-Shotwell Invitational held on the campus of the University of Puget Sound and the Trojans had several individuals that turned in big performances. For the men, Anthoney Ray Kirk turned in PR's in both the 100m and 200m races, and Hector Mendoza PR'd in the 5000m. Both relay teams also turned in top times for the season and currently sit just outside qualification for the NWAC Championships. In the 4x100m Ryan Cole, Anthoney Ray-Kirk, Rieal Vilamena, and Harry McHugh finished less than a second behind first place PLU at 45.25. The 4x400m team Cole, Robert Lane, Ray-Kirk, and McHugh finished 5th with a time of 3:44.95. They beat out two Whitman teams, but were behind fellow NWAC opponent Green River. Sophomore thrower Brandon Bruss did not PR in the discus event, but he finished in 8th place overall in that event and scored a team point.
The Everett women were led off by freshman Madeline Dang who place 5th overall and set a new PR by nearly four seconds. She moves up to 7th on the NWAC performance list, less than three tenths of a second behind 6th. Taya Kilgore PR'd in the 5000m by almost 4.5 seconds placing 17th overall and moving her up to 12th on the NWAC performance list. Amelia Koon ran in her first collegiate 3000m steeple chase. She was the only competitor at the meet, but posted a time of 14:20.12 which ranks 4th in the NWAC. The top performer of the day for Everett was Teagan Pentz who placed 6th overall in the 5000m, and beat out all other NWAC competitors with a time of 19:37.54. This was her first 5000m race of the season, and she is already 3rd on the NWAC performance list with the best time by any freshman so far this season.
The Trojans will regroup and head east for the first time this season for the Whitworth Peace Meet in Spokane, WA. The event will be on Friday April 4th.
