Long Makes All American, Seven Others Make the Podium

Gresham, OR – Trojan Track and Field closed out the 2025 season at the NWAC Championships, hosted on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College. Fourteen EvCC athletes competed in 17 events over the two-day meet, with eight athletes reaching the podium by placing in the top eight.

Men's Highlights:
Anthoney Ray-Kirk and Jacob Doughty both reached the prelims—Ray-Kirk in the 400m, where he set a personal record (PR) and placed 11th, and Doughty in the 800m, also with a PR, finishing 15th. Isaiah Buckley ran a 14-second PR in the 10,000m to place 10th, while Charlie Roberts made the podium with a 7th-place finish in the same event. Roberts also placed 13th in the 5,000m.

Hector Mendoza took 10th in the 3,000m steeplechase, and lone sophomore Brandon Bruss finished 12th in the hammer throw with a PR of over nine feet.

The other podium finishes came from Jaquan Means and Justice Funston. Means placed 8th in the 110m hurdles and recorded season bests of 59.74 in the 400m hurdles and 15.56 in the 110m hurdles, ranking 14th and 12th, respectively, on the EvCC All-Time Lists. Funston placed 7th in the pole vault and added his name to the EvCC record books with a PR of 13'7"—11th all-time. As one of the few decathletes in program history, his decathlon score of 5320 ranks 2nd all-time at EvCC.

Women's Highlights:
The women's team found success in the distance events, scoring 22 team points and finishing 8th overall. Madeline Dang qualified in both hurdle events, placing 10th in the 100m hurdles and 12th in the 400m hurdles. She also ran the first leg of the 4x400m relay, which finished 6th. Lily Rock, also on the relay, ran both the 5,000m and 1,500m, setting PRs in both. She placed 12th in the 5,000m with a 23-second improvement and narrowly missed the podium in the 1,500m with a 9th-place finish.

Amelia Koon and Taya Kilgore both competed in the 10,000m. Koon reached the podium in 8th, while Kilgore was just behind in 9th. Freshman Teagan Pentz competed in three events, including the relay. Her standout performance came in the 5,000m, where she hit a 21-second PR and placed 5th overall. She also PR'd in the 800m and placed 8th overall, earning a podium finish in all three of her events.

Standout Performance:
The standout of the meet was Reda Long, who took on three grueling events—a big challenge for any distance runner. She became EvCC's lone All-American by placing 2nd in the 10,000m on day one, setting a lifetime best by 1:12. On day two, she placed 4th in the 5,000m and later ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay, making a huge move to lift the team from 7th to 6th.

It was a strong finish to a solid season for the young Trojan team, which featured just a handful of sophomores. Under head coach Rachel Cundy, the team will look to build in the off-season and return even stronger in 2026.
