Everett, WA – After two hard fought road wins over Memorial Day weekend, the Trojans were back at it Wednesday evening, hosting the Skagit Valley Cardinals. EvCC entered the contest riding a six game winning streak, and confident after a one point road win in the last meeting versus SVC back on May 19th.
The contest opened up with an SVC three on the opening possession, but the Trojan zone defense tightened up, allowing just five more points on 3-12 shooting and went into the quarter break with a 12-8 lead.
Skagit Valley began to chip away at the lead and pulled it to within one by the five minute mark, but a surge of converted buckets on the SVC press stretched the Everett lead back out to nine. By the halftime buzzer the Trojans held on to a 24-17 lead. Courtney Perry led all scorers with 12.
The third quarter was dominated by Everett finding holes all over the Skagit defense putting up 20 points and the zone held Skagit to ten points in the quarter. ThuyVi Tran hit two threes and Mikail Montez put up 8 points to lead the scoring.
In the 4th, Skagit showed some fight by continuing to press full court but the lead remained comfortable, as each Skagit run was answered by a bucket at the other end. The closest the Cardinals got was 13 with 2:50 to go and Everett cruised to the 65-45 victory.
Courtney Perry and Mikail Montez combined for 42 points scoring 22 and 20 respectively. Courtney also brought in 11 rebounds.
The Trojans will play in their last game of the season this Saturday at home against Bellevue which in affect will be for the best record (via win percentage) in the North region. Tip off has been set for 2pm.
