Shoreline, WA - The only north region opponent that the EvCC women's basketball team had not yet seen was the Shoreline CC Dolphins. Despite what the schedule says, Everett had yet to face the Dolphins due to an early season COVID protocol that forced Everett to forfeit the contest. With a shot at redemption, the Trojans took to the court with another solid defensive performance. Shoreline at 11-7, came into the game as the 5th ranked offensive team in the NWAC, averaging 68.5 points per game but were held to just four made field goals in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Everett scored the majority of their first quarter points from beyond the arc hitting three, three point field goals including two from Sydney VanNess. Everett then utilized a 20-point second quarter, led by Mikail Montez's 9 points and 7 rebounds to take a 35-26 advantage going into the half.
The offensive firepower remained hot from outside for Everett as they once again hit three, three point field goals, this time two from Kinslee Gallatin and a second three of the game for Maddy Thoma. Those nine points attributed to half of the 18-point quarter for the Trojans, while the defensive again played well enough to hold Shoreline to 14 points, extending the lead out to 13 going into the final quarter. This is where Everett really clamped down, allowing just three made baskets on 3 of 14 shooting to secure the 66-48 win, and holding the 5th ranked offense to 20 points below their average.
Kinslee Gallatin led all scorers with 17 points tying her season high, and Mikail Montez set a new season high of 18 rebounds while also scoring 13 and dishing out 4 assists. Maddy Thoma came in off the bench with 13 points and led the team in assists with 5. The win brings Everett up in the standings now tied with Shoreline for third place in the region at 5-3 in the north. The Trojans have an opportunity coming up this weekend to solidify their spot in the standings, hosting a struggling Bellevue team that is 1-7 in region play. The Trojans last played the Bulldogs back in Bellevue on January 22nd and came away with a 59-40 win. Tip off is set for Sunday, February 20th at 2pm.
