
Everett, WA - The Trojans defeated South Puget Sound CC at home on Saturday by a final score of 68-63. Baylor Thomas led all scorers with 21 points, the fifth time this season that she has scored 20 or more in a game, and still holds the top spot in the NWAC in points per game at 24.3. She also led all players in assists with 7, which was a new career high. Perla Ruiz had a double-double performance, scoring 19 points and grabbing a career high 12 rebounds from the point guard position. Another freshman, Elsa Cajune came off the bench to add 6 points and also hauled in 12 rebounds.
The Trojans overcame a seven point defecit in the first half, before eventually going into the midway break up 30-27 despite shooting just 30% from the field. Perla Ruiz kept EvCC in the game with 14 first half points. The visiting Clippers used a big 3rd quarter to reclaim the lead heading into the 4th but Everett responeded with their biggest offensive quarter of the game, scoring 23 points, with a balanced attack where six different players scored.
With a little over a minute to go, Everett led by one, and traded buckets with SPSCC down the stretch to maintain the lead. They also converted 4-4 from the free throw line in the final 22 seconds which put the game on ice 68-63. The Trojans were solid from the line all night making 15 of 18 from the stripe, and out rebounded South Puget Sound 49-38.
