Skagit Avenges Loss on Larry Walker Court

Everett, WA – Women's hoops was back at it on Valentines Day on Larry Walker Court, with hopes of shaking off last Saturday's 71-70 loss to Bellevue.  Everett faced Skagit Valley a team they defeated just ten days prior by a score of 65-58 in Mount Vernon.

The Cardinals featured a roster of nearly every player at 5'7 or taller and used that to create mismatches in the early goings and had an 11-3 lead before head coach Jeannie Thompson called timeout.  The short break helped spur a 9-2 run in favor of the Trojans, but SVC kept the home team at bay and had a 17-15 lead after the first quarter. Both teams did most of their damage inside the paint, and the only three made of 8 combined attempts was from EvCC's Jada Andresen.

The Cardinals maintained the lead for much of the second quarter by continuously going inside, but with just under two minutes to play, Baylor Thomas hit her second three of the game to put the Trojans up 28-26.  Neither team would find the bottom of the net for the remainder of the half and Everett went into the locker rooms with the two-point advantage.  Thomas led all scorers with 9 and Jada Andresen scored 8. Both players hit two threes.

Everett opened up the 3rd quarter on a 7-0 run and forced two Skagit turnovers that turned into fast break points.  The Cardinals went into a 2-3 zone over the next three minutes and by the five-minute media timeout, the Trojans had a six-point lead, 37-31.  Everett held SVC to just 26% shooting for the remainder of the half, but left points on the board with missed free throws and kept the six-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The teams exchanged buckets through the first three minutes, but Skagit carved into the deficit and fought back to tie the game at 47 with six minutes remaining.  The rest of the quarter would be a defensive let down for EvCC who had otherwise done a great job for three quarters.  The Cardinals put up 27 points in the fourth quarter alone and ran away with the game 62-50.

Baylor Thomas finished with 18 points, and Jada Andresen put up 12.  Ashlee Kluin was good on the boards with 13, tying a career high.  Thomas continues to climb the all-time scoring ladder at EvCC.  With five games remaining on the schedule, she now has 538 points, which ranks 7th, and her 175 made free throws now ranks first all time at EvCC. Another Trojan is reaching the top of the record books, Jada Andresen has 67 made three's on the season which ranks tied for 10th all-time at Everett.

The Trojans will play their next game on the road, Friday at Shoreline, and then will return home in one week for the final home game of the season, sophomore night against Olympic.
