Everett, WA – The Trojans returned home on Tuesday night to take on Yakima Valley. Both teams were playing with a short bench and the offenses would be in their zone attack for the entirety of the game. EvCC's zone had trouble locating the shooters and YVC opened up a 14-0 lead. The Trojans got their first bucket with a Selena Espinoza drive to the bucket at just under the five-minute mark of the quarter. Alaina Spoonhunter and Jada Andresen then combined for 10 points to keep Everett within ten and the end of the quarter.
Everett's defense in the second quarter improved as did the offense, and the Trojans matched Yakima point for point in the second quarter but the deficit remained 10 at the half. Jada led the way for EvCC with 17 first half points.
The third quarter was Everett's best defensive effort, but they went cold from the floor making just one field goal on one of ten shooting. Yakima won the quarter 13-6, and extended their lead to 17 heading into the 4th quarter.
Yakima's lead grew as the Trojans struggled to keep the opponents off the glass. Seven offensive rebounds in the 4th quarter prevented EvCC from making the stops they needed to close the gap, and Yakima won it 64-43.
Everett's scoring was led by Jada Andresen's 23 points, and Selena Espinoza scored 9 while playing solid on ball defense. The undersized Trojans struggled on the glass as a team and were out-rebounded 56-35, with 16 second chance points for YVC. Everett's defense did come up with 9 steals and forced 18 YVC turnovers.
Everett will get some time off to rest and recover, before traveling to Wenatchee after Thanksgiving on December 1st to take on the Knights. Then the Trojans will return home for the Everett Women's basketball classic, December 6-8. EvCC will open up with Clackamas on December 6th at 7:00pm.
