Everett, WA – Trojan Women's Hoops hosted Douglas College of New Westminster British Columbia on Friday night. The Canadian school is an NWAC member in the sports of softball and baseball with athletes having two years of eligibility, but their other sports, including basketball belong to the national Canadian organization in which student athletes have five years of eligibility. The Royals featured a roster of six players in their 3rd or 4th year of eligibility, but the Trojans played with grit and determination.
Everett trailed by just three points at the end of the first quarter, and outscored Douglas 12-10 in the second thanks to a Jada Andresen three near the end of the quarter. Everett trailed 23-22, with nine points from Andresen and seven from Arielle Leavens.
The Royals, who boast a 10-3 overall record, turned it up in the 3rd quarter with a press that forced 10 turnovers, and outscored the home Trojans 26-4, which effectively set the tone for the remainder of the game. EvCC was more competitive in the 4th quarter, but Douglas won it going away 72-41.
Jada Andresen led EvCC in scoring with 20 points, the fifth time she has scored 20 or more this season and the 7th time in her career. She also hit four, three's adding to her career total of 111 made three's moving her ahead of Karissa Tri's 109 for 6th all-time at EvCC.
The Trojans will play Douglas again on Thursday, January 2nd at the Skagit Valley Tournament. That game will be played at 3:00pm in Mount Vernon.
