
Everett, WA - The women's basketball team was in search of their first north region win on Wednesday night and took on the Skagit Valley Cardinals, a team with a 9-6 record and 1-1 in North Region play. Everett played the visitors tough in the first quarter, and scored 14 points with four of five starters getting in the scoring column, but Skagit scored 18 in the opening frame mostly on second chance scoring opportunities with 7 offensive rebounds. Sarah Cook for SVC got going in the second quarter with 12 points, helping the Cardinals take a 38-24 lead at the half.
In the first half of the season, Everett had struggled to score in the 3rd quarter, but had their best offensive quarter of the game in the 3rd period. Jada Andresen scored 9 points, leading EvCC to a sixteen points, but could not get the clutch stops to close the gap. Skagit was held to just 15 points in the 4th quarter, but a comeback was insurmountable at that point and SVC won 72-50.
Jada Andresen led all scorers with 25 points and knocked down three 3FG's bringing her career total to 122, 4th all time on the EvCC career list. Jessica Emmons had a big night against a tall Skagit team and collected 13 rebounds, while freshman guard Selena Espinoza scored 12 points and had 5 rebounds.
Everett has shown improvement over the last several games, hanging close with opponents for large portions of the contest. They will have an opportunity for a win on Saturday against Shoreline who has just five wins on the season. That game is scheduled for 2pm, in Shoreline.
