Tukwila, WA - The 2024 women's soccer team got the season underway last week with three matches, resulting in a win, a loss, and a draw giving the freshman heavy squad a great opportunity to gel after having only started practicing together two weeks prior.  A recent trip to Portland, OR gave EvCC an opportunity to scrimmage Multnomah University (an NAIA program), and then open up regular season play with a non conference match up against south region opponent Portland CC.  That match ended in a 1-1 draw with sophomore Alexis Bell scoring her 5th career goal.  The assist came from former Marysville Pilchuck teammate Maleah Kirk

The Trojans then had five days to prepare for the NWAC Friendlies at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA.  EvCC faced off against east region opponent Blue Mountain who finished with an 8-9-1 record last season.  The match was evenly played through the first half, and grew in physicality as time went on.  Everett broke the scoreless draw in the 40th minute when Genesis Molina Escobar scored her first collegiate goal and EvCC would lead 1-0 going into the break.    Early in the second half the rough play continued and a collision between Bianca Osorio and a BMCC player would lead to a double card situation. Questionably Osorio received a straight red, and the Trojans would be forced to play down a player for the remainder of the match.  The EvCC defense held strong weathering multiple scoring chances by Blue Mountain and secured the first win of the season.

The next day Everett took on the west region champs from a season ago, Lower Columbia College.  The Red Devils entered the 2024 season ranked #4 in the NWAC and flexed their muscles scoring in the first 8 minutes of the match.  LCC got two more goals before the half, putting Everett in a steep uphill battle. The Trojan defense looked better in the second half, but freshman Kari Pate completed the hat trick by scoring two more goals, one in the 60th and another in the 85th, securing the 5-0 win.

Everett will get nine days to rest, before returning home to face Douglas College of Canada in a scrimmage.  That match is schedule for 2:30pm on Saturday August 31st.
