Olympia, WA - Women's soccer was back in action Tuesday afternoon as the 1-1-1 Trojans traveled down to Olympia for the final non conference match of the season against the Clippers of South Puget Sound CC. In Everett's previous contest, the women hosted Douglas College out of Canada in an exhibition resulting in a 4-4 draw. EvCC showed a proven ability to score, and spent the next week honing defensive tactics in preparation for their trip to South Puget Sound.
Wasting no time, Everett got on the board within the first minute of action. Sophomore Cassandra Sotelo scored her first goal of the season (3rd career goal) and sixteen minutes later freshman Chloe Parker scored her first goal in a counting contest. Last week Parker scored in the exhibition match on a rocket from 35 yards out to beat the opposing keeper.
Everett got the quick start and kept the pressure on with an amazing 28 first half shots, forcing 16 saves. Unfortunately, just the two found the back of the net and EvCC led 2-0 at the half. Everett continued its dominance in the second half, missing a goal scoring opportunity within the first minute of action when the SPSCC goalkeeper made two consecutive saves (shots from Denisha Nash & Alexis Bell) before the third shot (Maggie Kozlowski) went high over the crossbar. Finally, South Puget Sound got a shot off that would require sophomore goalkeeper Ruby Wacker to make her one save of the entire match in the 46th minute. But that would be all that the Trojan defense would allow, and it would be all Everett from there on out. All total EvCC finished the game with an incredible 45 shots (31 on goal) compared to SPSCC's one shot.
Fourth year coach Nicole Nsa was proud of how her team responded defensively, and kept pressure on for a a full 90 minutes. Finishing the attack will be a point of emphasis over the next three days of training as EvCC prepares for their north region opener against Whatcom CC. That match is scheduled for 12:00pm in Bellingham.
