Bellingham, WA - Women's soccer began the north region campaign over the weekend with a trip to Bellingham to face the Orcas of Whatcom CC.  For the second consecutive game, EvCC shutout the opponent on the road and dominated possession, resulting in 2-0 wins.  Sophomore Cassandra Sotelo also scored in her second consecutive game, bringing her career total to four (two this season, two last season).  Her goal came just 12 minutes into the action when sophomore Alexis Bell tracked down a long pass from Genesis Molina Escobar just outside the penalty box.  Bell sent in a low cross that was touched perfectly on a sliding effort by Chloe Parker right to Sotelo who put it past the keeper on her right foot.

The Trojans would go scoreless the rest of the half despite a pair of shots by Alexis Bell that challenged the goalkeeper.  Everett's keeper, Ruby Wacker saw little action, but did record a relatively easy save.

Whatcom earned a pair of corners to start the second half, but could not get anything to materialize.  Alexis Bell finally broke through in the 57th minute when she chased down a loose ball just outside the box and sent a right footed shot to the far post that just snuck inside, putting the Trojans up 2-0.  It was Bell's 2nd goal of the season (6th of her career).  Heavy rain started to fall late in the match, and EvCC did not garner many other scoring opportunities.  Symantha Rangel had two shots, the second had the best chance, a one v one with the keeper but went just over the top of the crossbar.

Everett's defense did its job in the closing moments of the match, thwarting all attempts by Whatcom to get a late goal and EvCC left Bellingham with the win.

The Trojans will have a tough test against #1 ranked Peninsula on the road Wednesday evening, but have shown they have the ability to play stingy defense which will be critical in Port Angeles.  Kick off is set for 5pm.
