Shoreline, WA - In a must win road matchup against Shoreline, the Trojans kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3 set victory over the host Dolphins. The win avenges a loss to Shoreline earlier in the season, and it was done in convincing fashion, as the Trojans are playing their best volleyball of the season.
The Trojans took the first point of the opening set and from there held onto the lead for MOST of the match. Shoreline kept it close, but an 11-3 run by the Trojans (highlighted by Jayda Grosboll's 2 kills and a service ace) built the lead out to 20-11. Shoreline did not quit and responded with ten straight points to take their first lead of the set at 22-21, and looked as though they would complete the comeback win. Without timeouts and against the ropes, Everett showed grit to not only stop the bleeding, but secure the next five straight points to pull off a comeback set win of their own.
In the second set the Trojans led the whole way, jumping out to a 9-3 lead. Shoreline was able to chip away at the lead and brought it back to two at 17-15, but the Trojan offense got it rolling again with five kills to close out the set 25-18.
The third set was more domination from the Trojans, never trailing and leading by as much as seven. With a 20-14 lead Shoreline attempted a last ditch effort calling a timeout, but Everett went on behind Stasia Ka'ahanui's services, and to score the next five points.
Erin Ingram led the team with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Rachael Hendrickson had a career day with 11 kills. As a team, Everett played one of their cleanest games with only 11 errors and connecting on one of their best hitting percentage nights of the season at .292.
Everett will have Friday off, and a week to prepare for the 2nd meeting with rival Edmonds College in Lynnwood next Wednesday. The Trojans lost in three sets at home to the Tritons in their previous match, but kept it very tight throughout with final scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-23.
