Everett, WA – The Trojans returned home after a week off, to face their final north region opponent in the first half of region play. The Shoreline Dolphins have struggled this season under a new head coach in a transition year, but have shown some resolve, winning their first match of the season last week against Olympic.
EvCC entered Wednesday's contest battling through more injuries and sitting at 1-4 in the north standings, but with a "get right" game in front of them, and the whole second half of region play in front of them.
The first set was all Trojans dominating 25-8. Five different Trojans recorded kills led by middle Annika Mason (3). Camilla Olive also had 2 kills and 2 service aces.
Everett jumped out to another early lead in the second set, forcing Shoreline to an early timeout, leading 6-1. Shoreline was able to hang for a brief moment in the set, and trailed by four at 6-10, but the Trojans seized control and cruised 25-15. EvCC tallied 12 kills on a .303 hitting percentage, led by Maua Gaudia's 3 kills.
Shoreline made the third set interesting and held a 10-7 lead, forcing EvCC to take a timeout. Out of the break, Everett went on a 9-0 run on Taylor Holland's service rotation, where Holland recorded two aces. The Dolphins weren't able to recover, as EvCC continued to outpace Shoreline 15-4. They closed out the set and match 25-11.
Camilla Olive led all scorers with 11 points, 6 kills, 2 service aces, and 3 blocks. Maya Gaudia led the kill category with 7, and Taylor Holland led in assists (18) and service aces (4). Halle Wilkinson and Cadynce Knudson led the team defensively with 15 and 12 digs respectively.
The Trojans improved their north region record to 2-4, with a pivotal home match on Friday in the T-Trophy Rivalry against Edmonds. Match time is set for 7pm.
