It was the third race in three weekends for the men's and women's EvCC Cross Country teams, but despite the tough schedule, five Trojan freshman posted personal bests in their collegiate careers.
In the women's race, it was once again Ellee London who led the team with a 34th place overall finish, 11th among NWAC Competitors. Mary Carbajal (86th) was the next to finish followed by Maylenn Cendejas (90th) and Caitlyn Smith (91st) who set a new collegiate PR in the 5k with a time of 22:02.9. Sandra Hart rounded out the team scoring for the Trojans with 104th overall finish (76 team points). As a team EvCC finished 12th overall, and 5th among NWAC teams.
On the men's side, there were a number of career bests from the freshman. Nathan Schneider led the team with an 85th overall finish, and 24th among NWAC runners, while setting his new 8k PR at 27:53.2. Jeffrey Richner and Trent Henry both set 8k PR's with times of 28:32.6 and 28:37.6 respectively, as did Geoffrey McGaughey at 34:29.3. Freshman Surafel Muche ran in his first collegiate race this past weekend, posting a time of 29:21.3 and rounded out the top 5 team scoring for the Trojans. Finishing 2nd for EvCC was sophomore Nathan McGinity (101st overall, and 32nd among NWAC competitors).
The Trojans will have a much needed two weeks off, before heading back down to Oregon for their next race on October 19th. They will compete in the Warner Pacific University Classic in Portland, OR.
