Cross Country Season Preview

Everett, WA - The 2024 men's and women's cross country team will be full of fresh faces this season, with nearly every member of last year's team graduating.  Head Coach Rachel Cundy, entering her 3rd season is excited for the talent that is coming in and the hard work that the athletes put in during summer training.

"The men's side has a strong pack of guys this year, absolutely the strongest group since I have been coaching at EvCC," said Coach Cundy. "It has been exciting to watch them work together in workouts so far this season. Last week they ran 400s on the track and every time they started another one I heard them deciding together who was leading that lap. Great personalities and hardworkers all around on the mens team."

The men's team will consist of five freshman.  Anthony Long, 5k PR 16:11 and 1600m 4:28. Strong overall leader both to push the team in workouts and just in general.  Charlie Roberts, 5k PR 16:59 and 3200m 10:06. Charlie had a great summer of training, and was one of the most consistent on the squad.  Andrew Schmitz, 5k PR 16:26 and 3200m 9:57. Has servant style leadership and willing to step up and support the team in any way that he can.  Isaiah Buckley comes from a small high school (Nooksack) and is excited to train with high level runners.  He has improved greatly over the summer.  Jake Doughty is a solid middle distance runner and has been upping his trainer to sustain his speed over longer distances.  He will have great development over the course of the season.

The women also have five freshman and have been gelling together as a team.  Teagan Pentz (5k PR 21:31), Amelia Koon (5k PR 22:58), and Taya Kilgore have gotten a full summer of training in.  Teagan continues to learn how to push herself and becoming more comfortable with longer distances.  Taya has been marathon training and working great with Amelia pushing each other.  Ariel and Maria joined the team later in the summer but have been meshing well and excited for their first races.  Maria competed for the Trojans in soccer, but returns this year on the cross country course.

The Trojans open up the 2024 on Saturday, August 31st at the Linfield Harrier Classic with the first race at 10am.
