Bremerton, WA - The men's and women's Trojan Cross Country teams both placed 2nd at the Northwest Region Championships hosted by Olympic College in Port Orchard, WA. The Gators of Green River dominated the men's 8k with a score of 17, finishing 1,2,3,5,6. But EvCC freshman Anthony Long was the 2nd freshman overall to finish, and scored 4 points for his team. Charlie Roberts was next to cross the finish line for EvCC followed by closely by Andrew Schmitz. Isaiah Buckly PR'd with a time of 30:03.6 and Jacob Doughty was the final Trojan to finish taking 17th. The five EvCC runners scored 50 team points, 30 points ahead of 3rd place Olympic.
Anthony Long received first team all region honors and both Charlie Roberts and Andrew Schmitz were named 2nd team all region.
The women's 5k was a much closer race, decided by just nine points. Green River won it with a score of 27, but the Trojans were close scoring 36 points. Teagan Pentz finished 3rd overall leading the Trojans with a time of 21:35.4. Taya Kilgore finished 4th overall and she was followed by teammates Ariel Rodriguez-Garcia (10th), Amelia Koon (11th), and Maria Isaza Marin (14th). Ariel Rodriguez-Garcia PR'd with a time of 23:09.0, and for the first time this season finished 3rd for EvCC.
Teagan Pentz and Taya Kilgore were named first team all region, while Ariel Rodriguez-Garcia, Amelia Koon, and Maria Isaza Marin were named 2nd team all region. Head Coach Rachel Cundy was named the northwest region women's cross country coach of the year.
Both squads defeated the Edmonds teams which means two total points were awarded to EvCC in the annual T-Trophy Standings.
Everett will prepare to run in the Northwest Athletic Conference Championship meet on Saturday, November 9th at Chambers Creek Park in Unversity Place, WA.
